Hurricane Helene devastated our 10-year-old furniture store in Asheville. We have lost everything, but we are not giving up.
Hurricane Helene, the most violent ever recorded in the region according to experts, left behind an indescribable human and material toll. While our furniture store, proudly established for a decade in Asheville, was destroyed, our determination to bounce back does not waver. Marked by personal and professional losses, we will continue our journey toward rebirth, motivated by resilience and the hope of rebuilding what we have lost.
Hurricane Helene devastated our 10-year-old furniture store in Asheville
It was on Thursday evening that Hurricane Helene struck with unprecedented violence. In an instant, this weather pattern of historic magnitude transformed hope into despair in the hearts of the residents of our beloved city of Asheville. My furniture store, the fruit of ten years of work and perseverance, found itself submerged. The furniture, once a source of pride, floated sadly in the raging water. A place that was home to dreams and hard work for an entire decade was ultimately reduced to a pile of debris, such was the power of the hurricane.
We lost everything
The material toll is overwhelming. The store was not only our main source of income, but also an integral part of our identity. The waters carried away our creations, from unique furniture carefully designed by hand to our precious equipment. Like many other victims of this disaster, we feel the weight of an indescribable loss. Hurricane Helene not only ravaged Florida, it also severely affected a county in North Carolina where 30 deaths were reported, including our fellow citizens. In all, some 155 people died, and several hundred are still missing. Our hearts grow heavier every day at the thought of these lives tragically interrupted.
But we don’t give up
When faced with adversity, the most important thing is to draw on your inner strength. Despite the shock and pain, we refuse to give in to despondency. Chilling images show neighborhoods wiped off the map, but that’s only part of the story. At the heart of every challenge is an opportunity to rise stronger. Memories, as heady as they may be, should not dissipate our determination to move forward. Supplies are flowing into isolated communities, proof that solidarity overcomes adversity. Through shared courage, we will rebuild not only our business, but also a more cohesive and resilient community.
